Yellow Alert Issued for Heavy Rain and Hail in Mexico City Boroughs

Mexico City is bracing for heavy rainfall and potential hail as the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection issued a yellow alert for nine of its 16 boroughs on Wednesday, July 29. The alert is active from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM, with forecasts predicting between 15 to 29 millimeters of rain.

The affected areas include Álvaro Obregón, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Iztapalapa, Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco. Residents in these zones should prepare for potential impacts, including the possibility of hail.

To mitigate risks, the Secretariat recommends that the public carry umbrellas or raincoats. They are also advised to water plants with the rain, keep drains clear of debris, and avoid pouring grease into the drainage system. Furthermore, caution is urged for those traveling through or near areas with potential flooding, as well as for drivers who may encounter fallen trees or debris on roads. People are also advised to stay away from walls, trees, power lines, and billboards that appear to be at risk of falling.
