First 20km of Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot Expressway Accepted, Opening Next Week

The initial 20 kilometers of the Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot expressway, a key component of a larger transportation project, have been finalized and officially accepted, according to provincial officials. Pham Van Hoa, Deputy Director of the Khanh Hoa Province Department of Investment for Agricultural and Transport Projects, confirmed that the first phase of the expressway is ready for use. He stated that the 20km stretch is slated to open next week, beginning at the National Highway 1 interchange (km0+000) and extending to the National Highway 26 interchange (km20+963.66). This opening follows the completion of consultations with the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (under the Ministry of Transport) and the Traffic Police Department (under the Ministry of Public Security). Once operational, this 20km section will link National Highway 1 with the Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway at the Hoa Thi interchange and National Highway 26 at the Kim Cuong interchange. This connection is anticipated to improve travel convenience and stimulate economic development in the region. Regarding the remaining 10 kilometers of the first phase, the project management board indicated that construction will be expedited for acceptance and opening in the near future. Earlier, on May 23, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan urged the project's investors to coordinate with relevant units to review signage, traffic signals, and traffic management plans for the initial 20km section. He also stressed the importance of monitoring slopes and bridges, especially during the rainy season, and enhancing public awareness to protect infrastructure and prevent unsafe practices like riding motorcycles on the expressway. The 117.5km Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot expressway project is divided into three phases. Phase 1, within Khanh Hoa province, spans 31.5km and is managed by the provincial Department of Investment for Agricultural and Transport Projects. This phase is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026. Upon completion, the expressway will significantly reduce travel distance between Khanh Hoa and Buon Ma Thuot, cutting the journey from approximately 200km to just over 117km.
