First class upper doesn’t exist, Babcock warns public over fake certificates

Babcock University in Ogun State has issued a stern warning against fraudulent academic certificates falsely linked to the institution. The university explicitly stated that it does not recognize the academic classification "First Class Upper" and that individuals involved with forged documents face prosecution.

Babcock University unequivocally states that this document is false, unauthorised, and does not emanate from the university.

The warning came after the university discovered the circulation of fake certificates. One such document was a purported honorary certificate for "First Class Upper" allegedly issued by the "Babcock University Biochemistry Computer Club." The university unequivocally declared this document false and unauthorized.

Babcock University emphasized that it does not issue honorary certificates for undergraduate academic performance. Instead, academic excellence, including First Class Honours, is formally recognized solely through official university degree certificates and transcripts issued by the Registrar's Office.

For the avoidance of doubt: Babcock University does not issue ‘Honorary Certificates’ in recognition of undergraduate academic performance. Academic excellence, including the award of First Class Honours, is formally recognized only through the University’s official degree certificate and academic transcript issued by the Office of the Registrar.

The institution urged employers, educational bodies, and government agencies to disregard any forged certificates. It also warned that those who knowingly produce, present, or use unauthorized academic documents for personal gain could face investigation and prosecution by law enforcement. Babcock University reserves the right to pursue civil and criminal proceedings against any entity misrepresenting its name or credentials.
