First F1 championship win for Hungary and McLaren double thwarted by a breakdown

Lando Norris claimed a dominant victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, marking his first win of the season and a significant achievement for McLaren. Starting from pole position, Norris initially lost the lead to his teammate Oscar Piastri. Piastri controlled the early stages of the race until a critical incident involving a lapped car.

While battling another competitor, Piastri was impeded by Williams driver Carlos Sainz, who failed to let him pass. Frustrated, Piastri called Norris an "idiot" after being overtaken by his teammate, who had just exited the pits. Piastri's race then took a further turn for the worse when his car suffered a gearbox failure, forcing him to retire from second place and prompting a safety car period.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull finished second, 15.08 seconds behind the leader. Kimi Antonelli secured the final podium spot for Mercedes. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari came in fourth, followed by Lewis Hamilton, who received a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane, dropping him down the order.

Antonelli now leads the overall standings with 219 points, extending his lead over Hamilton (169) to 50 points. In the constructors' championship, Mercedes leads with 379 points, followed by Ferrari (307) and McLaren (220). The Formula 1 season will now observe its traditional four-week summer break, with the next Grand Prix scheduled for August 21-23 in Zandvoort, Netherlands.
