Five Arrested in An Giang Motorbike Snatching Investigation

An Giang police have detained five people accused of using motorbikes to ride alongside travelers and snatch their belongings on national highways 61 and 63.

Police said on Sept. 6 that they had opened a criminal case, prosecuted the suspects and ordered their temporary detention while investigating the alleged property snatchings. The suspects are Nguyen Nhut Linh, 46, Tran Thanh Qui, 27, D.N.Q., 16, Danh Thai, 20, and Tr.H.D., 16. All are from Thanh Loc commune in An Giang province.

According to the investigation, the group committed multiple thefts from early 2026 onward in Binh An, Chau Thanh, Giong Rieng and Long Thanh. The alleged targets included money and other valuable items.

Police said they identified the group after receiving reports from residents. Investigators described the group’s activity as organized and carefully planned. The suspects allegedly used modified motorbikes to approach people traveling on the road before grabbing their property, a method that could cause victims to fall and created anxiety among the public.

An Giang police said they were expanding the investigation and would handle the case under the law.
