Five companies compete to supply 587 vehicles for National Civil Police

Guatemala's National Civil Police (PNC) is set to acquire its first batch of 587 vehicles after five companies submitted bids for the supply contract. The Ministry of Interior stated the purchase is necessary to address a "carencia de unidades policiales" (shortage of police units) for patrols and personnel transport across the country.

The tender, managed through Guatecompras, includes a variety of vehicles crucial for enhancing the PNC's operations against organized crime. Among the most sought-after are 400 "picop" type patrol vehicles. Continental Motores, S.A. offered the highest number of vehicles across multiple categories, while Grupo Q Guatemala, S.A. submitted the lowest overall bid, primarily focusing on the 400 required patrol trucks.

Other vehicles in the tender include 50 agricultural vans, 20 30-passenger buses, 60 15-passenger minibuses, 12 48-passenger buses, 30 panel vans, 12 crane trucks, one tow truck, and two armored tactical vehicles. Delivery timelines vary, with standard vehicles expected within six months and specialized trucks and armored vehicles taking nine to 12 months.

The PNC aims to "fortalecer el trabajo encaminado a la prevención y combate al crimen organizado" (strengthen work aimed at preventing and combating organized crime) to provide "tranquilidad y protección a la población guatemalteca" (peace and protection to the Guatemalan population). The competition for the 400 patrol vehicles sees bids from Grupo Q Guatemala for Chery Himla vehicles, Continental Motores for Volkswagen Amaroks, and Cofiño Stahl for Toyota pickups.
