Five drown after attempting to rescue swimmer in Ohio

A tragic incident unfolded Sunday evening at O'Shaughnessy Reservoir near Columbus, Ohio, resulting in the deaths of five individuals.

The group of seven, including two couples, a friend, and two children, were relaxing by the Sajoto River. The situation escalated when one adult entered the water to swim and began to struggle.

In a desperate attempt to save the struggling swimmer, two other adults entered the water but also found themselves in distress. A further two adults then attempted to rescue them, leading to a chain reaction where all five individuals ultimately drowned.

Authorities were alerted when one of the children ran to a nearby road, flagged down a passing car, and explained the unfolding tragedy. Emergency services quickly located two women who were pulled from the water but were later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The bodies of the three drowned men were recovered the following day.
