Vilnius Prepares for Heavy Rainfall, Deploys Extra Crews

Vilnius is bracing for significant rainfall, as meteorological forecasts indicate the possibility of 15-20 millimeters of precipitation falling on the capital city today. This amount translates to approximately 15-20 liters of water per square meter. In addition to the heavy rain, wind gusts are expected to reach up to 9 meters per second.

In response to these predictions, "Grinda," the company responsible for maintaining Vilnius's infrastructure, has deployed additional resources. The company stated, "This morning, we mobilized additional forces so that we can respond promptly to flooded streets, fallen trees, and other disruptions to the city's infrastructure caused by precipitation, if necessary."

"Grinda" has cautioned that temporary street flooding may occur during periods of intense rain. The company explained that the rainwater drainage system may not always be able to immediately cope with large volumes of water, leading to accumulation in low-lying areas of the city. Consequently, residents and drivers are advised to proceed with caution, maintain safe speeds, avoid sudden maneuvers, and, if possible, refrain from driving through flooded road sections.

Yellow alerts have been declared in many regions due to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strengthening winds in some areas. Intermittent rain is expected throughout Monday, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Wind gusts from the west could reach 15-18 m/s in places, and temperatures are predicted to rise to 15-20 degrees Celsius, reaching up to 22 degrees in eastern regions.
