Five Fishermen Rescued After Getting Lost in Dominican Republic Mountains

Five crab fishermen who became lost in the mountainous community of Los Cacaos, within the Tamboril municipality, have been found safe and sound following a coordinated search and rescue operation. The alert was received by the Civil Defense of Santiago around 1:30 AM via the National System for Attention to Emergencies and Security 9-1-1, which immediately activated search units.

Francisco Arias, the regional director of the Civil Defense in Santiago, explained that the men had lost their way while engaged in fishing activities in the area. "At one-thirty in the morning, the unit was activated by System 9-1-1, and subsequently, these individuals were located and returned to their families due to their disorientation in that location," he stated.

The rescued individuals were identified as Cristian Acosta, 37; José Miguel Ramos, 35; José López, 49; Aristóteles Gregorio Acevedo, 56; and Valentín López, 49. Authorities confirmed that all were found in stable condition and did not require hospitalization. The operation, which included members of the Civil Defense, the Fire Department, and the National Police, concluded around 2:20 AM.

Separately, the Dominican Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture (Codopesca) has imposed a ban on the capture and sale of river crabs from June 1 to September 30, in accordance with Law 307-04.
