Five officers injured as police boat crashes into Westminster Bridge

Five police officers sustained injuries Tuesday afternoon after their vessel collided with Westminster Bridge in central London. The incident happened around 5:40 p.m. when a boat belonging to the Metropolitan Police's Marine Policing Unit struck the bridge. According to a police statement, some officers aboard the boat fell into the water.

Officers were quickly rescued by colleagues and emergency services. "As far as we know, five police officers were injured and are receiving treatment. We await an update on the extent of their injuries," the Metropolitan Police said in a statement. The police clarified that there were no indications of civilian involvement or injury in the incident, which "will be thoroughly examined."

The accident occurred a short distance from Parliament, with passersby and tourists on the bridge witnessing the event. The Port of London Authority reported its participation in the rescue operation for the officers.
