Five Saudi-Kuwaiti Workshops to Combat Desertification and Restore Land

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are holding five virtual workshops focused on combating desertification and restoring degraded land. The training and technical sessions will continue through September and October 2026.

The workshops were launched by Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification in cooperation with Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority. They activate a memorandum of understanding between the two countries on environmental protection, rehabilitation, conservation, and the exchange of expertise.

The sessions will address how to identify and assess degraded land using remote sensing and field surveys. They will also examine the economic and social effects of land degradation, the role of green belts in limiting the spread of sand, and Saudi Arabia’s experience with integrated management of invasive plants.

The program forms part of Saudi efforts to deepen regional cooperation on desertification, land restoration, and ecosystem protection. It also supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative.
