Five-vehicle collision on Gyeongbu Expressway causes traffic disruption

A multi-vehicle accident involving five cars occurred early on August 9th at the Dongtan interchange on the Gyeongbu Expressway, heading towards Seoul in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.

The incident began around 4:55 AM when a 6.5-ton cargo truck, traveling in the fifth lane, struck a crash cushion on the shoulder before overturning. Subsequently, an SUV and a bus following the truck were unable to avoid a collision with the overturned vehicle. The chain reaction continued as a 2.5-ton cargo truck in the third lane swerved to change lanes, colliding with a passenger car, resulting in the five-vehicle pile-up.

Fortunately, reports indicate that no one sustained serious injuries in the accident. Police and fire authorities managed the scene by closing four out of the five lanes to clear the wreckage and facilitate traffic flow. Investigations are underway, with authorities examining driver testimonies and black box footage to determine the precise circumstances of the collision.
