Flamengo Denounces Racist Attacks by River Plate Fans Against Bruno Henrique

Brazilian football club Flamengo has issued a strong condemnation of racist attacks targeting its forward, Bruno Henrique, perpetrated by fans of Argentine club River Plate. The incidents occurred during and after a friendly match between the two teams in Algarve, Portugal, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Flamengo stated its "absolute indignation" over the racist acts, which intensified on social media after Henrique scored a goal in the 32nd minute of the first half. His celebration involved lifting his shirt to display a tattoo of the 2019 Copa Libertadores trophy, a competition Flamengo won against River Plate.

The club declared its "total solidarity and support" for Bruno Henrique, whom it described as one of its greatest idols. Flamengo stressed that "there is no space for any form of prejudice within or outside the stadiums," adding that "racism is a crime and cannot be normalized or treated with tolerance."

Flamengo highlighted its ongoing commitment to combating racism, a principle enshrined in its statutes. The club consistently runs awareness campaigns, particularly within its youth teams, and urged victims and witnesses to report such incidents to the competent authorities. The club reiterated its firm stance against all forms of discrimination.
