Flávio Bolsonaro Asks Supreme Court to Declare Justice Moraes Biased in Banco Master Case

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has formally requested that Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes be declared biased in a legal action concerning Banco Master and its former banker, Daniel Vorcaro. Bolsonaro's defense team submitted the petition to the court's president, Edson Fachin, citing a potential conflict of interest due to the justice's wife's professional relationship with the bank. According to tax records, the financial institution paid R$ 80.2 million over two years to the law firm where Moraes' wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes, works. The defense argues that this connection compromises Moraes' impartiality in presiding over a request filed by Congressman Lindbergh Farias, which seeks an investigation into the "Dark Horse" case. Farias' request reportedly probes alleged financial activities related to Vorcaro, Flávio Bolsonaro, and a supposed parallel financial network involving former President Jair Bolsonaro's family. Bolsonaro's defense contends that Farias' claims are speculative and lack logical rigor, characterizing them as an attempt to manipulate the legal process. They deny any link between the financing of a film about Jair Bolsonaro and investigations into alleged actions by Eduardo Bolsonaro in the United States. The Intercept Brasil previously reported that Vorcaro paid R$ 61 million for the production of the film "Dark Horse." Messages suggest Vorcaro was pressured by Flávio Bolsonaro to make this payment. Moraes has requested the Prosecutor General's Office to provide its opinion on the matter, while Farias has also filed a complaint with the Federal Police. The defense for Flávio Bolsonaro is also seeking to separate Farias' request from an ongoing inquiry into Eduardo Bolsonaro's activities and suggests the case be assigned to Justice André Mendonça.
