Flood level in Chenab eases from medium to low; PMD forecasts fresh rain spell for upper parts of Punjab from July 29

Floodwaters in Pakistan's Chenab River have subsided from medium to low levels, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). While rivers across Punjab continue to experience flooding due to recent rains, water flow has remained stable over the past 24 hours. Low-level flooding persists in the Indus River at Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa, with recorded water flows of 334,000, 370,000, and 313,000 cusecs respectively. The Chenab River is now at a low-level flood at Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad, and Trimmu barrages, with flows ranging from 135,000 to 184,000 cusecs. Low-level flooding is also present in the Ravi River at Balloki and Sidhnai headworks. However, water flow in the Sutlej and Jhelum rivers remains normal. A medium flood is occurring in Narowal's Basantar Nullah, while Wazirabad's Phalko Nullah is experiencing a high-level flood with a flow of 5,000 cusecs. The PDMA has appealed to citizens in floodplains to evacuate immediately, assuring them that relief camps will provide essential facilities and medicines. Heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours has been recorded across various cities, with Noorpur Thal receiving 115mm. The PDMA warns of potential river and canal flooding in low-lying areas, as well as landslides in mountainous regions, advising citizens to contact the helpline in emergencies. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts a fresh spell of rain for upper parts of Punjab and northern Pakistan starting July 29.
