Flood Risk in Galați Prompts RO-ALERT Messages; Firefighters Evacuate Water

Galați County in Romania is grappling with significant flooding after days of intense rainfall triggered orange alerts for atmospheric instability and hydrological warnings.

Accumulations of water have inundated streets and roads across several localities, disrupting traffic. On the DN25 national road, traffic was significantly slowed as motopumps were deployed to clear waterlogged sections, while road crews worked to remove accumulated mud.

Firefighters have been actively involved in pumping water out of numerous flooded households. In response to the escalating risk, authorities issued RO-ALERT messages to the public, advising them to steer clear of vulnerable areas.

The prefect of Galați County, George Toderașc, stressed the urgency of necessary measures, calling on local authorities to clear ditches and gutters to facilitate water drainage. He assured that all involved institutions are in constant contact, monitoring the evolving weather phenomena and their impact on the county, and are prepared to implement further actions to mitigate the effects of the severe weather.

Also, I remind them that they must monitor the critical points in each locality and, if the situation requires it, inform the population about potential dangers. I am in constant contact with all institutions involved in managing emergency situations and we monitor the evolution of meteorological phenomena and their effects in the county. We will continue to take all necessary measures to limit the effects produced by severe weather.
