Flood washes away 42km road linking Betrawati to Rasuwagadhi

Flooding has obliterated a crucial 42-kilometer road linking Betrawati in Nepal's Nuwakot district to the Rasuwagadhi border crossing with China. The Department of Roads confirmed the complete destruction of the stretch, which runs along the Bhotekoshi river.

Several concrete bridges were also swept away by the floodwaters. This route had already sustained damage from flooding in June. The destruction impacts a vital trade artery, particularly the 16-kilometer section from Syabrubesi towards the border, which the Chinese government had funded for a two-lane upgrade following last year's floods.

Information we have received shows that the flood has completely damaged the 42-kilometre road from Betrawati to the Rasuwagadhi border crossing. The flood has also swept away several concrete bridges along the route.

Officials are still assessing the full extent of the damage. Deputy Director General and spokesperson Shubharaj Neupane stated that details are still being collected, and communication with supervisors along the Syabrubesi-to-border section has been lost. The Lhende Khola flood also previously washed away the Miteri Bridge on the Nepal-China border.
