Government orders free treatment, emergency aid for Rasuwa flood victims

Nepal's government has mandated free medical treatment for those injured in the recent Rasuwa flood, directing the Ministry of Health and Food Safety, the Nepali Army, and government hospitals to provide care. The Cabinet expressed sorrow over the loss of life and property caused by the Bhotekoshi river flooding, paying tribute to the deceased and offering condolences to their families.

Financial assistance will be provided to the families of victims under existing laws. The home and defence ministries are tasked with immediate rescue and relocation efforts for the injured and stranded, utilizing the Nepali Army and private helicopters. Government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel announced that the Foreign Ministry is coordinating with China and India to secure necessary assistance for the flood-affected areas.

Authorities have been instructed to relocate families who lost their homes to safe areas, ensuring they receive food and shelter. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development is tasked with reopening roads, while the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and the Nepal Electricity Authority will work to restore power supplies. Telecommunications services are also a priority for restoration.

The Ministry of Finance will coordinate the mobilization of funds for rebuilding damaged infrastructure. In response to the disaster, the Cabinet declared the affected local units as disaster crisis zones for three months, invoking the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act.
