East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Melki Laka Lena confirmed that five people have died following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Governor Laka Lena stated that detailed data on casualties and damage would be provided after his visit to Flores later that day. He noted that several roads across Flores were cut off due to the earthquake and subsequent landslides.

The northern part of Flores sustained the most severe impact, with areas including Maumere, Ngada, and Manggarai affected, and the epicenter in Nagekeo. Local governments across Flores are actively collecting accurate data on damage and casualties.
