Fluminense striker John Kennedy to undergo knee surgery

Fluminense announced that striker John Kennedy will undergo surgery after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The injury occurred during a match against Vasco da Gama on Wednesday. Kennedy, 24, was injured in the 54th minute of the Copa do Brasil match when he and teammate Paulo Henrique went down after contesting a ball. After receiving medical attention on the field, Kennedy was unable to continue and was substituted by Germán Cano. Kennedy is a key player for Fluminense, leading the team in scoring this season with 14 goals. He has also made 38 starts, second only to goalkeeper Fábio. His absence will be a significant blow to the team, especially as they are already dealing with a number of other injuries. He joins a growing list of injured players at Fluminense, including Thiago Silva, Juan Pablo Freytes, and Julián Millán. The club did not specify an exact recovery timeline but stated that the player is already undergoing pre-operative rehabilitation. The Brazilian forward previously played for Mexican club Pachuca before returning to Fluminense.
