Food Business Owner Fined $1,150 After Maggots Found in Steamed Chicken Dish

Authorities in Ea Ktur commune, Dak Lak province, have imposed a fine of 27 million Vietnamese dong on the owner of a food establishment following an incident where maggots were found in a steamed chicken dish served at a housewarming party. The discovery, captured in a video that circulated widely on social media, sparked public outrage and prompted an investigation.

The owner, identified as H.M.B.Y., was fined 2 million dong for failing to adhere to food safety regulations during preparation and storage. Specifically, the investigation found that improper storage practices allowed insects, such as flies, to access the food, leading to the contamination of the steamed chicken with maggots.

Additionally, the establishment was fined 25 million dong for operating an eatery business without the necessary food safety certification. The commune's People's Committee has issued the decision and confirmed that the owner has paid the full amount of the fine. The establishment's operations were temporarily suspended pending full compliance with food safety standards.
