Football Bundesliga: FC Augsburg Starts Preparations with Newcomer Behrens

FC Augsburg has officially kicked off its preparations for the upcoming season, welcoming new recruit Hennes Behrens. The 21-year-old left-back joins the club on a long-term contract, committing his future to FCA until June 30, 2031.

Behrens, who developed through the youth ranks at TSG Hoffenheim and made his Bundesliga debut there, spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at 1. FC Heidenheim. Sporting Director Benni Weber expressed enthusiasm about the signing, noting Behrens's valuable Bundesliga experience at a young age. Behrens himself conveyed his excitement about joining Augsburg, seeing it as an ideal environment for his continued development. "FC Augsburg offers me perfect conditions to develop further and take the next step in my career," he said. He was presented to the photographers alongside other new signings, including Sima Suso, Faik Sakar, and Calvin Brackelmann, as well as players like Rodrigo Ribeiro and Yannik Keitel, who were previously on loan and have now been permanently signed.

Under coach Enrico Maaßen, the team's pre-season schedule includes six friendly matches. Their first test will be on July 18 against a Swabian selection. A training camp is planned in Achenkirch, Austria, from August 1 to August 8. The team will face a significant challenge in their final friendly before the competitive season begins, playing against Premier League club Leeds United on August 15. The Bundesliga season officially commences a week later, following their DFB-Pokal first-round match on August 22 against FC Energie Cottbus.
