Foreign visits to Argentina jump 17.9% year-on-year in July

Argentina experienced a significant boost in foreign visitation during July, with the total number of international visitors rising by 17.9% compared to the same month last year. Official figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) show that 830,200 foreigners entered the country.

Breaking down the figures, the number of tourists, those who stayed overnight, increased by 9.1% year-on-year to 466,200. The primary sources for these tourists were Brazil, accounting for 36.1% of the total, followed by Uruguay at 16%, and other countries in the Americas contributing 10.8%.

In addition to overnight stays, Argentina also saw a substantial rise in same-day visitors, referred to as 'excursionists.' This category grew by an impressive 31.5% compared to July of the previous year, reaching 363,900 individuals. These visitors often cross borders for shopping or short trips, particularly to cities like Buenos Aires or border towns, arriving via air, land, or river transport.

The report also touched upon outbound tourism, noting that approximately 1.22 million Argentine residents traveled abroad in July, a decrease of 21.2% from the previous year. Of these, 697,200 were classified as tourists and 531,100 as excursionists. Brazil and Paraguay were the top destinations for Argentine outbound travelers.
