Foreigner Arrested in Bogotá for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Minor on Balcony

Bogotá authorities have apprehended a foreign citizen in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a minor. The incident reportedly took place on a balcony in the upscale Usaquén neighborhood of Bogotá, with two other children also present at the scene. The arrest was made following an alert from the community to the Metropolitan Police, who responded immediately.

The community alerted the Metropolitan Police to an adult engaging in abusive acts with a child in a building in the area. Immediately the Police (...) went to the location. The child was rescued and taken to a hospital for evaluation and the adult is in police custody for identity and background verification.

César Restrepo, the capital's Security Secretary, confirmed the arrest in a video statement. He stated that police rescued the child, who was then taken to a hospital for evaluation. The adult suspect is currently in police custody for identity and background verification. The Prosecutor General's Office has strongly condemned the alleged act of sexual violence, emphasizing the gravity of the situation given the presence of other minors.

Given the seriousness of the facts, which also involve two other minors, the Public Ministry was present at the scene.

The Prosecutor's Office has pledged to ensure the comprehensive protection of all children involved, to conduct thorough investigations, and to guarantee the restoration of their rights. They have called upon the relevant authorities to act with speed, decisiveness, and absolute priority in addressing this case. This incident occurs amidst a concerning trend in Colombia, where migration authorities have reported an increase in foreign nationals attempting to enter the country for purposes of sexual exploitation, leading to a significant rise in inadmissions.
