Forest Fire Erupts Near Plauru, Romania; Drone Explosion Suspected Cause

A powerful forest fire erupted on Wednesday afternoon, August 26, near the Romanian locality of Plauru. The fire broke out in a forest area managed by the Tulcea Forest District, initially affecting about half a hectare in parcel 54A.

According to Romsilva, initial information and local witness testimonies suggest that the most probable cause of the fire was the explosion of a drone. The incident prompted an immediate response from various entities.

Currently, forestry workers from Romsilva, volunteer firefighters, and residents from the surrounding area are actively engaged in efforts to locate and extinguish the fire. Authorities are mobilizing additional resources to prevent the spread of the flames, concentrating forces and equipment from neighboring regions, including forestry personnel, water pumps, hoses, and other specialized machinery.

Romsilva has also requested support from the fire department through the emergency number 112. The situation remains dynamic as efforts continue to bring the fire under control.
