Former Chilean Football Chief Sergio Jadue Cleared of Charges Due to Statute of Limitations

Sergio Jadue, the former president of Chile's National Professional Football Association (ANFP), has been definitively cleared of charges including tax evasion and embezzlement. The 13th Guarantee Court in Santiago issued the ruling on Tuesday, citing the statute of limitations as the basis for dismissing the case.

The prosecution had been investigating alleged financial and tax irregularities during Jadue's tenure as head of the ANFP between 2011 and 2015. The court's decision means that the legal proceedings against him for these specific charges have been terminated.

Mauricio Etcheverry, a former advisor to Jadue, also benefited from the court's decision and was similarly cleared of charges in the same process. The ruling followed arguments presented by Jadue's lawyer, Marcelo Hadwa, who sought the termination of the case based on the expiration of the legal timeframe for the alleged offenses.
