Woman arrested for keeping malnourished dog and cat at home

Authorities in Chile have rescued a severely malnourished dog and cat from a property in Padre Las Casas, La Araucanía region. The animals were found in deplorable conditions, prompting an investigation and the arrest of the individual responsible for their care.

The Brigada Investigadora de Delitos contra el Medio Ambiente y Patrimonio Cultural (Investigative Brigade for Crimes against the Environment and Cultural Heritage) of the Policía de Investigaciones responded to a report concerning the animals' welfare. Upon arrival at the residence, officers discovered a dog tethered by a chain approximately 50 centimeters long. The animal was visibly emaciated and suffering from severe neglect.

In addition to the dog, investigators found a five-month-old cat in comparable conditions of abandonment and mistreatment. Both animals exhibited significant physical deterioration and were living in an environment that failed to provide basic welfare, care, and protection. The scene indicated a clear case of animal cruelty and neglect.

The woman identified as the caretaker of the animals was taken into custody by the police. The rescued dog and cat have since been transferred to the care of specialized veterinarians who will assess their health and provide necessary treatment. The incident highlights the ongoing efforts by Chilean authorities to combat animal abuse and ensure the well-being of domestic animals.
