Former Council Member Druskinienė's 'Receipts' Case Transferred to Court

A former member of the Varėna District Municipality Council, Virginija Druskinienė, has been indicted on charges of fraud, abuse of office, and document forgery. The Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office announced that it has transferred the criminal case to court after reviewing the evidence. Prosecutors allege that between 2019 and 2023, Druskinienė falsified 26 reports on the use of council member allowances. She is accused of submitting false information about fuel expenses not related to her official duties. The investigation suggests she fraudulently obtained 1,690 euros belonging to the Varėna District Municipality administration. Druskinienė is also charged with abusing her official position and the right to reimbursement for expenses related to her council activities to gain financial benefit. Authorities state these alleged actions undermined the essence of her granted rights, diminished the authority and public trust in her role as a council member, and harmed the image of the Varėna District Municipality. The case will be heard at the Alytus District Court.
