Former German Foreign Minister Baerbock to Join Columbia University as Professor

Annalena Baerbock, Germany's former Foreign Minister, is set to take on a new role as a professor at Columbia University in New York following her tenure as President of the UN General Assembly.

Informed sources indicate that Baerbock will assume a practice-oriented professorship in Global Leadership. She will also serve as co-director for the Master of Public Administration in Global Leadership program. This position is described as a hands-on role rather than a traditional research professorship, targeting executives with at least a decade of professional experience.

Baerbock's current one-year term as President of the UN General Assembly officially concludes on September 8. She was elected to the position in June 2025 with a significant majority, becoming only the fifth woman to lead the General Assembly. Her presidency was marked by international crises and rising tensions within the multilateral system, during which she advocated for UN reform, women's rights, climate action, and sustainable development.
