Former Health Minister Mocks Acting PM Bolojan Over Hospital Inauguration

Former Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete has sharply criticized interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, mocking his attendance at the inauguration of the Vasculo-Cerebral Pathology and Neurosurgery Center at the Cluj County Emergency Clinical Hospital. The project was funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Today, the dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan did something else he likes very much: he cut. This time, fortunately, he only cut the ribbon at the inauguration of a new hospital, built by others with money from PNRR.

In a social media post, Rogobete sarcastically noted Bolojan's penchant for "cutting," stating that this time he "only cut the ribbon" at a new hospital built by others with PNRR funds. Rogobete congratulated the Ministry of Health team, local authorities, hospital management, professionals, and builders for realizing the project.

Rogobete then directed a series of pointed questions at Bolojan regarding healthcare funding and hospital operations. He questioned how doctors are expected to perform in a new hospital with fewer staff and less money, especially when funding is cut, medications and supplies are scarce, and hiring is blocked. He also referenced Bolojan's past comments about doctors' salaries being too high and questioned the use of bed occupancy rates as a universal efficiency indicator.

The former minister stressed that a hospital's success depends not only on its physical infrastructure and equipment but crucially on human and financial resources. He argued that a new hospital cannot function solely on "walls, equipment, and ribbons cut at the inauguration." Rogobete highlighted the necessity of specialized personnel, medications, medical supplies, and predictable funding, noting that 22 new hospitals are currently under construction in Romania. He concluded that the real challenge lies in ensuring these investments are adequately supported to function effectively.
