Former Indonesian Minister Gus Yaqut Seeks Prayers Ahead of Hajj Quota Corruption Trial

Former Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, affectionately known as Gus Yaqut, is preparing for his first trial on August 11 concerning alleged corruption in the allocation of hajj quotas. The trial is scheduled to take place at the Central Jakarta District Court.

Gus Yaqut has publicly stated his readiness to face the proceedings, expressing a sense of tawakkal, or reliance on God, for the outcome. He has requested prayers from the public for the legal process to proceed smoothly and without issue. "Insya Allah ready, insyaallah ready," he told reporters, emphasizing his intention to cooperate fully. He also added, "Pray that this trial goes well, smoothly. Pray, everything that is true will be revealed."

His wife, Eny Retno, stood by his side, echoing his request for prayers and affirming their respect for the legal system. "Please pray, please pray for everyone. May the trial go well, smoothly. We fully respect the ongoing legal process. May we receive good, just justice. Just pray for us," she said. The indictment against Gus Yaqut will be heard separately from three other defendants: his former special staff Isfhah Abidal Aziz, former chairman of the Association of Hajj and Umrah Travel Agents (Kesthuri) Asrul Aziz Taba, and PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour) operational director Ismail Adham.

Gus Yaqut has assured the public of his good health and reiterated his commitment to cooperating throughout the trial. He stressed his belief in surrendering the results of the legal process to Allah SWT, stating, "Tawakkal, we surrender. We leave it to Allah."
