Former Marset secretary arrested in Itacurubí de la Cordillera

A former secretary of alleged drug trafficker Sebastián Marset was arrested Sunday at a house in his hometown of Itacurubí de la Cordillera, Paraguay, months after authorities launched the Nexus II operation.

Dionisio Manuel Cáceres Cabrera, 38, known as “Manu,” was located by agents from the National Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department. Investigators had been searching for him since Feb. 17, when Operation Nexus II began targeting Marset’s former structure in Paraguay.

Cáceres was allegedly a sports businessman and became sports manager of Rubio Ñu, using money from Marset, according to the report. He was also allegedly among those who helped the Uruguayan join Deportivo Capiatá. Another person detained in the case is former Olimpia and Paraguay national-team goalkeeper Víctor Centurión.

Nexus II focuses on the former Paraguayan network of Marset, described in the report as a major Uruguayan drug trafficker who is currently imprisoned in the United States. Investigators suspect the group reactivated cocaine-trafficking routes previously used by Marset.
