Former Mexicali Security Director Arrested on Forced Disappearance Charges

Pedro Ariel Mendivil García, the former director of Public Security in Mexicali, has been arrested along with other municipal police officers. The detentions followed an operation involving state security forces, the Navy, the Army, and the State Attorney General's Office.

Mendivil García and his colleagues face charges including forced disappearance, vehicle theft, and criminal association. The State Attorney General's Office stated that the accused are implicated either directly or through omission in the alleged crimes. Images of the arrest were released by the prosecutor's office, which confirmed that arrest warrants were executed on Tuesday morning in the state capital.

In a video circulating on social media before his arrest, Mendivil García warned of his impending detention. He stated that he would surrender voluntarily and without violence, holding the Baja California prosecutor, Ma Elena Andrade, responsible for his safety and integrity. He alleged the arrest was a fabricated act of revenge linked to his conflicts with the local government, suggesting it was a crude and hasty response to published audio recordings.
