Former Miraflores Mayor Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Security Guard

Miraflores, Peru – The Municipality of Miraflores has publicly condemned an alleged physical assault against a pregnant security guard, which reportedly occurred on August 1 at the Manuel Bonilla sports complex. The alleged aggressor is identified as the former mayor of Miraflores, Jorge Muñoz Wells.

The incident, detailed in a police report filed by the employee identified by the initials A.P.C.R., occurred when she attempted to prevent unauthorized entry into the sports facility. According to her testimony, she was physically assaulted during this intervention.

The Municipality of Miraflores issued a statement on August 5, expressing its strongest rejection of any violence against its personnel. The statement highlighted the particular gravity of the alleged aggression against a pregnant employee who was simply performing her duties. The commune confirmed it is providing the employee with legal, psychological, and administrative support and is cooperating with investigations by the National Police and the Public Ministry.

The municipal administration also lamented the lack of a statement from the former mayor regarding the incident. Despite attempts to communicate with him, the municipality noted, “We regret that, despite the seriousness of the complaint and the evident public interest in the case, the accused has not offered a clear explanation nor expressed his position on the events, despite having been requested by a media outlet.” The municipality stated it awaits the clarification of facts, respecting due process.
