Main Suspect Arrested in Los Olivos Murder; Crime Reportedly Sparked by S/7 Debt

Peruvian police have apprehended the primary suspect in the killing of a young Venezuelan man in the district of Los Olivos. Initial investigations suggest the fatal attack may have been triggered by a debt as small as S/7 (about $2 USD), though authorities are continuing to explore all possible motives.

Francisco Ramón Barazarte, 26, a Venezuelan national, was arrested and identified as the alleged perpetrator in the homicide of Martin Raomer Cisneros Peña, 23, also a Venezuelan citizen. Police General Óscar Arriola stated that Barazarte had gone to collect the S/7 debt from Cisneros Peña. When the victim refused to pay, a dispute escalated into a violent chase.

Preliminary findings indicate Cisneros Peña attempted to flee but was caught and fatally stabbed. However, General Arriola noted that the investigation is ongoing, as the suspect has reportedly changed his account of events multiple times during questioning. "The investigator constantly changes his version, so it will be necessary to clarify the circumstances in which the crime occurred," Arriola said.

Authorities are also examining the victim's police record, which includes incidents between 2021 and 2026 for offenses such as aggravated theft, drug possession, reckless driving, property damage, and disturbing public order. While these records are part of the investigation, police stressed they do not definitively establish the motive for the homicide. The National Police continue their work to determine the exact sequence of events and confirm whether the alleged S/7 debt was the true catalyst or if other factors were involved.
