Former National Nutrition Agency Heads Named Corruption Suspects in Free Meal Program

Indonesia's Attorney General's Office has named three former leaders of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) as suspects in a corruption case involving the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. The MBG program is a flagship initiative of President Prabowo Subianto.

The accused are Dadan Hindayana, former head of BGN for 2024-2026; Lodewijk Pusung, former deputy head for organizational development; and Sonny Sanjaya, former deputy head for nutrition fulfillment. They were detained after a day-long examination on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

According to Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Investigation at the Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes, the suspects are accused of "corruption in the governance of the Free Nutritious Meal program at the National Nutrition Agency for the period 2025 to 2026." The investigation found sufficient evidence to elevate their status from witnesses to suspects.

Prior to their arrest, Hindayana, Pusung, and Sanjaya were dismissed from their positions by President Prabowo on Tuesday evening. Hindayana was known as a trusted academic appointee, Pusung a retired Army Lieutenant General, and Sanjaya a retired Police Inspector General.

The corruption allegedly involves seeking personal profit and inflating the procurement prices for the MBG program. The government allocated Rp 85.27 trillion for the MBG program through BGN in 2025, and doubled it to Rp 268 trillion for 2026. The program requires BGN to appoint foundations at recipient schools to partner in providing the meals.
