Former NBA player Royce White declares for 2027 WNBA Draft, citing transgender identity

Royce White, a former NBA first-round draft pick, has declared his intention to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, stating he identifies as transgender for the purpose of playing professional basketball. The 6-foot-8 former Houston Rockets player's announcement follows a similar declaration from ex-NBA player Enes Kanter.

White revealed his decision to Fox News Digital, explaining his stance on his gender identity in relation to professional sports. "I am transgender. I am a woman," White stated. "I do identify myself as a woman at times for reasons of professional basketball, so I will be entering the WNBA draft."

The former Iowa State standout expressed confidence in his basketball abilities, telling Fox News Digital, "I think I would be unstoppable. But for me, the team comes first. I'm a pass-first player. I do the little things. I was first on my team in all five major statistical categories at Iowa State, so I do a little bit of everything. I'll do whatever the coach needs. I'll do whatever the girls need."
