Former orderly threatens hospital director for job, faces two years in prison

A former hospital orderly faces a potential two-year prison sentence after allegedly threatening a hospital director to secure his re-employment. The accused, identified as V.V. (57), reportedly repeatedly demanded his old job back after being released from prison in November 2025, having served a year and a half for a traffic accident.

If you don't hire me at the hospital, I will start committing crimes and you will all have consequences because of it! Besides, I know which church you pray in! I will meet you there and you won't be able to hide from me!

According to the prosecution, V.V. made numerous calls to the director and the director's secretary between December 2025 and February 2026. He allegedly issued threats, stating that if he wasn't rehired, he would turn to crime, causing consequences for everyone. He also reportedly mentioned knowing the director's church and threatened to confront him there.

The director reported the threats, leading to V.V.'s indictment. The director stated that V.V. initially approached him amicably in late November 2025, seeking help to return to work. The director informed him that there were no open positions but advised him to monitor job postings. However, the director claims V.V. then began calling frequently, and after he stopped answering, V.V. sent threatening messages.

V.V. defended himself by stating he had worked at the hospital for 35 years and had a good relationship with the director. He claimed his communication was polite and that his mention of the church was not malicious. He also mentioned invoking the media due to his frustration over not finding employment despite his status as a Croatian defender.

After that, he sent me a threatening message which I immediately deleted, but I remember he told me he had enough of me and my prayers in church.

During the investigation, SMS messages were collected as evidence. V.V. also claimed to have the director's private number and vice versa, with past polite communication. He asserted the director was a timid and gentle person. The director confirmed V.V.'s contract was terminated when he went to serve his sentence and that he did not recognize V.V.'s number when he first called after his release.
