Former Philharmonic Director Beat Fehlmann takes on interim role at Bodensee Philharmonie

Beat Fehlmann, who previously led the German State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate for many years, is now lending his expertise to the Bodensee Philharmonie in a temporary capacity. He will be involved in the artistic planning and preparation for future leadership decisions during a critical transformation phase for the orchestra.

Fehlmann clarified that this is not a return to his former role as Intendant, but rather a clearly defined support function. His engagement is set to last until the end of the 2026/27 season, with operational responsibilities remaining with the management team. His mandate includes strengthening the institution both internally and externally while preparing for key decisions.

This transitional role comes as the Bodensee Philharmonie faces significant leadership changes. Chief conductor Gabriel Venzago has announced his contract will expire next year, and Intendant Hans-Georg Hofmann unexpectedly resigned early at the end of the current 2025/26 season. Fehlmann, who served as Intendant at the Philharmonie from 2013 to 2018, brings valuable experience to navigate this period.

Fehlmann, who is also the artistic director of the Music Academy in Liechtenstein, stated that the request for his assistance came from "the environment of the city and the Bodensee Philharmonie." He believes someone "who can quickly get to work and knows the orchestra and the political framework" is needed for this transition. He continues to follow the development of the German State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate with great interest and connection.
