Former Swedish Military Consultant Convicted of Espionage for Russia

A Swedish court has convicted a 34-year-old former military consultant of espionage on behalf of Russia. The individual, who reportedly suffers from a serious mental disorder, traveled to Moscow last November with the intention of transmitting secrets obtained during his work for the Swedish armed forces.

According to the court's verdict, the man contacted Russian intelligence agencies, the FST and GRU, offering classified information in exchange for Russian citizenship and special protection. Prosecutors stated that he utilized artificial intelligence to create a document titled "Request for Military Protection under GRU Procedure," outlining his reasons for seeking protection.

The defendant, identified only as R. T., denied the charges during a three-day trial. The Swedish Security Service (SAPO), which has identified Russia as a primary military and intelligence threat to Sweden, is also conducting a separate investigation into a conspiracy to murder involving the convicted man.
