Former 'Tatort' actor Andreas Hoppe dies at 66

Andreas Hoppe, a beloved actor renowned for his portrayal of Detective Mario Kopper in the long-running German crime drama 'Tatort,' has passed away at the age of 66.

Hoppe embodied the character of Mario Kopper in the Ludwigshafen-set 'Tatort' episodes for over two decades, from 1996 until 2018. He was a familiar face to viewers, often appearing alongside his co-star Ulrike Folkerts.

The news of his death was shared by his agency, Engelspost, which issued a statement on behalf of Hoppe's family. The agency paid tribute to him, stating, "We must say goodbye to Andreas Hoppe. To a great actor. To a down-to-earth TV star. To an unmistakable personality. And above all, to a wonderful human being."

Hoppe was born in Berlin in 1960 and pursued his acting studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Hannover from 1982 to 1986. It was during his time at the Hannover university that he met Ulrike Folkerts, who would become his long-time television partner. In the early 1990s, Hoppe was an active member of various theater ensembles in Berlin before achieving widespread recognition for his role in 'Tatort.'
