Former UP member hacked to death in Bogura

A former Union Parishad member, Saiful Islam, was killed in an attack by unidentified assailants in the Baghopara area of Bogura Sadar upazila late last night. Islam, 55, a former member of Nungola Union Parishad, was intercepted near Baghopara Bridge around 10:00 pm while returning home.

According to local residents and family members, Islam had gone to have tea at Baghopara Bazar intersection. As he was walking home, several attackers attacked him with sharp weapons, inflicting critical injuries. He was rescued by locals and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Saiful Islam had served as a UP member twice and was known for mediating local arbitration meetings. His niece, Sharmin Khatun, suggested that his involvement in local disputes might have led to enmity with the attackers. Ibrahim Ali, the officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station, stated that police have identified some suspects and are conducting operations to apprehend them. The investigation suggests the killing is linked to a prior dispute. The victim's family plans to file a case after receiving the body.
