Former Veracruz police chief arrested in Mexico City for double homicide

Levy "N," formerly known as "Comandante Levy" and the ex-chief of municipal police in Atoyac, Veracruz, has been apprehended in Mexico City. He faces accusations in connection with the double homicide of two individuals that occurred in January 2023.

According to ministerial investigations, the two victims were detained by the Atoyac municipal police. However, Levy "N" allegedly ordered that they not be handed over to ministerial authorities. Subsequently, along with other individuals, he is accused of allowing the victims to be removed from the police station. Hours later, the victims were discovered deceased with gunshot wounds.

The arrest was executed by agents from the Ministerial Police, in coordination with authorities from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection and Mexico City officials. The apprehension was carried out based on an arrest warrant issued as part of Criminal Process 133/2026.

Levy "N" is expected to appear before a Control Judge in the coming hours to determine his legal status. The mountainous central region of Veracruz, where Atoyac is located, has experienced significant violence over the past two decades, largely attributed to criminal gangs and drug trafficking organizations that have since fragmented into various factions.
