Formula 1: Russell takes pole in Spain, Mercedes continues dominance

George Russell of Mercedes-AMG claimed pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, clocking the fastest time of 1:15.679 on soft tires. This marks the third pole position for Russell this season and continues Mercedes' dominant streak, securing all seven poles awarded so far in the current Formula 1 championship.

Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari secured a front-row start, qualifying in second place with a strong final lap. He will start ahead of Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who leads the championship standings and has won the last five races. Antonelli qualified third.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is hosting this year's Spanish Grand Prix. The venue has a contract to remain on the Formula 1 calendar until 2032, but will operate on a rotational basis. Barcelona will host the Grand Prix only in even-numbered years (2028, 2030, 2032), alternating with the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, which will host in 2027, 2029, and 2031.
