Founder of General Maister Society Veržej, Drago Fras - Sokol, Dies at 76

Drago Fras, known as Sokol, the founder and long-standing president of the General Maister Society in Veržej, has passed away at the age of 76. The Slovenian Association of General Maister Societies announced his death, honoring his extensive contributions to Slovenian history and memory.

Fras was instrumental in preserving the legacy of General Rudolf Maister and his soldiers, especially within the Veržej and Prlekija regions, which were home to many of Maister's fighters. His efforts included initiating numerous patriotic projects and establishing memorial sites, all aimed at safeguarding historical memory and promoting Maister's values.

His dedication and work were recognized with the General Rudolf Maister Memorial Award. The Association of General Maister Societies stated that Fras will remain in their "permanent and grateful memory," emphasizing that his energy, perseverance, and commitment to Slovenian history left an indelible mark.

In his honor, the General Maister Society Veržej has postponed its upcoming doubles volleyball tournament and sports games, originally scheduled for today. The rescheduled event will now take place on July 11 in Veržej.
