Four arrested over boxing champion Zolani Tete's murder in South Africa

South Africa is grappling with the murder of boxing champion Zolani Tete, who was shot dead outside his home in an ambush on Friday. Tete, 38, was killed in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, while a 27-year-old woman traveling with him was also shot and is currently hospitalized.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the crime. A 22-year-old man appeared in court on Saturday facing murder and attempted murder charges. Two other suspects arrested on Sunday face charges of unlawful firearm possession, with their potential involvement in the murder still under investigation.

Tete, a former WBO bantamweight titleholder, had recently completed a four-year ban for testing positive for stanozolol, an anabolic steroid. His manager confirmed Tete was training for a comeback fight after his ban ended in July.

Tete's career included notable wins, a Guinness World Record for the fastest knockout in a title fight, and a controversial no-contest ruling in his last fight in July 2022. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
