Four killed, 20 injured in Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon

Four people were killed and 20 injured in new Israeli attacks on targets in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese authorities. The dead included two women in Arab Salim and two other people in Nabatieh. Several women and three children were among the wounded, Lebanon’s Health Ministry in Beirut said.

The Israeli army said the strikes followed a Hezbollah drone attack on Israeli soldiers stationed in southern Lebanon. “Terrorists” from the Iran-backed Shiite militia had fired two drones at the troops, the army said, calling the attack a “flagrant violation” that required a response.

Before the strikes, the army urged residents of Arab Salim to leave the town because attacks were imminent. “You are near a facility belonging to the terrorist organization Hezbollah,” the Arabic-language message on Telegram said.

The border area has remained tense since Lebanon was drawn into the Iran war in March, when Hezbollah attacked Israel from Lebanese territory. Israel responded with airstrikes and a ground offensive. Lebanese authorities say more than 4,300 people have been killed by Israeli attacks since then.

The Israeli army has designated a strip extending 10 kilometers into southern Lebanon as a “security zone” and has stationed soldiers there. Hezbollah is both an armed militia and an important political force in Lebanon.
