Four killed in 13th consecutive night of U.S. attacks on Iran

U.S. forces carried out another wave of airstrikes against military targets in Iran early Thursday, marking the 13th consecutive night of attacks. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the strikes targeted command centers, drone storage facilities, and coastal surveillance installations.

Iranian officials stated that at least four people died and five were injured in the attacks, which occurred in areas around the city of Ahvaz in the southwestern province of Khuzestan. Valiollah Hayati, the deputy governor of Khuzestan, described the strikes as a "rocket attack by the terrorist U.S. enemy on areas around the city of Ahvaz."

Iranian media outlets also reported U.S. strikes in other areas, including Andimeshk and Omidiyeh, as well as near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz and the major city of Bandar Abbas. The Iranian news agency Fars cited official sources for these reports. The portal "Nur News," which is close to the Islamic Republic's security council, indicated that Iran's air defense systems were active in the capital, Tehran.

CENTCOM confirmed the U.S. airstrikes, stating they began around 2:15 a.m. local time in Iran and lasted approximately two hours. The stated goal of the U.S. is to hold Iran accountable and reduce the threat posed by Iran's Revolutionary Guards to maritime shipping. The conflict escalated earlier in July after Iranian forces fired upon commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to the U.S. actions, Iran launched counterattacks. The Iranian military claimed to have intercepted missiles and drones from Iran in Kuwait, prompting the emirate's population to be urged to follow safety instructions. Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that the attacks targeted a military base used by the U.S. Air Force. Iran also reported renewed attacks on Bahrain and Jordan.
