Four-lane road on Tan Son Nhat Airport drainage canal takes shape

A significant infrastructure project to improve drainage for Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is progressing, with the A41 canal improvement project reaching 65% completion. The ambitious plan will transform the canal into a four-lane road, aiming to alleviate chronic flooding and pollution issues that have plagued the area for over three decades. Officials anticipate the road will be operational by December 2026.

The project involves installing double box culverts and creating a 12-meter-wide, four-lane road with sidewalks, integrated lighting, and green spaces. This transformation is expected to create a more modern and efficient urban environment. However, land acquisition remains a hurdle, with 24 households yet to hand over their property due to ongoing appeals.

Residents like Do Tu, who has lived with the canal's issues for over 30 years, expressed optimism. "Every time it rains, this area floods, emitting foul odors; in the dry season, the smell is even more unpleasant," she told Thanh Niên. "Now that the canal is being improved to build a road, everyone is excited, hoping the road will be beautiful soon and people's lives will improve."
