Four-month extension sought in Senasa corruption investigation

The Dominican Republic’s Public Ministry is seeking four additional months to complete its corruption investigation into the National Health Insurance system, known as Senasa.

The request was presented to the Seventh Investigating Court of the National District. During the hearing, prosecutor Rosa Alba García told Judge Deiby Timoteo that investigators still awaited reports and expert examinations from the Comptroller General’s Office, the Chamber of Accounts, the National Institute of Forensic Sciences and private companies.

García said the processing of the evidence had taken longer because of the volume gathered during the investigation. Prosecutors also have pending work on the analysis of financial information.

That financial review is intended to establish the path taken by the funds under investigation and help determine possible financial responsibilities. The court must decide whether to grant the requested extension.
